The Digital Solutions (DS) team recently conducted an internal information session, “Are We KM-Ready? An Information Session on Knowledge Management” last August 5 (Wednesday) led by Rica Aicel Mariano sharing key insights and practical learnings from a Knowledge Management training she took in University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Development Communication.

Rica introduced the basics of Knowledge Management such as the difference between explicit and tacit knowledge, the Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (D-I-K-W) model, and why it is important to systematize the process of capturing, sharing and using knowledge to improve organizational performance. She also highlighted some of the common problems information Management is trying to address, such as information silos, fragmented documentation and the risk of losing institutional knowledge when expertise is not retained or transferred properly. Rica mentioned that Digital Solutions and other teams are already doing Knowledge Management thru existing initiatives like documentation, user training, Open Space discussions, Regional Support Network meetings and use of collaborative platforms like Confluence and SharePoint. These examples showed how current practices could be the foundation for a more focused and sustainable approach to knowledge sharing and organizational learning. The workshop concluded with a lively discussion on ways to strengthen further existing practices, such as governance, documentation procedures, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and the effective transfer of skills across teams. The dialogue highlighted the need to further improve existing protocols to ensure the openness and accessibility of the vast pool of knowledge for partnership and innovation. The session highlighted the value of continuous learning and how individual professional development through sharing the knowledge and perspectives gained from the external training can help create a stronger culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing and organizational excellence within the Digital Solutions team.
