The EBS Global User Support (GUS) team virtually completed the CIMMYT-VACS Train-the-Trainer program from February 9 to 20, 2026, conducted online via Microsoft Teams. The two-week training covered all major EBS concepts and tools using a virtual flipped classroom that encouraged active, self-directed learning ahead of each live session. Trainers Rica Aicel Mariano, Michael Gituma, and Simbarashe Chisoro facilitated the sessions, with an introduction led by GUS lead Jahzeel Ramos Calosa.
The program drew strong participation, with nearly 30 attendees from organizations including CIMMYT, IITA, ICRISAT, WorldVeg, KALRO, TARI, and GBioS-UAC across multiple countries. Seven designated data managers and crop lead support staff completed the full program, including final return demonstrations evaluated by the training team. In total, 12 participants submitted their return demonstrations, were assessed, and received certificates upon successful completion.
The program was marked by several notable strengths, including active participant engagement, smooth transitions between trainers, strong team collaboration, and the timely resolution of a brief technical issue encountered during the sessions. Improvements were also observed in the planning and distribution of topics compared to previous runs, contributing to a more structured and effective delivery.
With the successful completion of the VACS Train-the-Trainer (TtT) program delivered by the Global User Support (GUS) team on behalf of Digital Solutions, follow-up actions are now in place to sustain the momentum. Certificates of completion have been awarded to twelve participants who met all program requirements.
The next phase of the training will continue through a Week 3 session, led by VACS Data Manager Hermann Some, to ensure continuity and further strengthen participants’ capabilities. The GUS team will continue to provide support through resources, guidance, and technical expertise as participants progress toward independently managing and delivering customized training based on their specific needs.
Overall, the program’s completion reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen and expand a capable and self-sustaining EBS training community.
